Business After Hours Hosted by Egolf Park Preserve
The business community of the Bedford County region is invited to this month's Business After Hours mixer, hosted by Egolf Park Preserve. Meet and greet friends, old and new from the business community with the backdrop of this beautiful local park, featuring a large electrified pavilion, trails, playground and more. Families welcome - no charge for children to attend.
Located only minutes from downtown Bedford, historic Egolf Park is a 10 acre recreational park presented (in perpetuity) to the Borough of Bedford by local businessman Abraham Egolf (at that time a member of the Chamber of Commerce), and his wife Lyda Carter Egolf, in 1929. The first community picnic was held on August 22, 1929, with (per the Bedford Gazette) over 2000 in attendance.
Since 2013 the Park has been maintained by Egolf Park Associates (EPA), a 501(c)(3) non-profit. Many improvements have been made including restoration of the 1939 pavilion (built in 1939 by the Workers Progress Administration), picnic tables in the pavilion and throughout the park, addition of playground equipment, and establishment of a ½ mile nature trail to name but a few. The Old Fencerow Trail now includes tree identification markers of 20 different species of trees thanks to the Eagle Scout project of Nathan Clapper in 2022.
As per the wishes of Abraham and Lyda Egolf, the park remains a public park. EPA rents the pavilion ($60 per day) to assist in the general upkeep of the park and to help fund improvements. Over the years the park has been the site of many reunions, picnics, bridal showers, graduation events, meetings, and even a few weddings! EPA relies solely on donations, pavilion rentals, grants, fund raisers and membership dues for the upkeep of the park. EPA membership is open to all for an annual $10 fee per family.
EPA is proud to host the June 15th Bedford County Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours and invites all to come enjoy a picnic style meal amidst one of the most beautiful settings in Bedford County. Part of the evening’s festivities will include the rededication of the 1939 Egolf Monument. The 84-year-old monument has been restored to its original condition through a grant from the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies.
